The Faculty of Sciences

The Faculty of Sciences was founded in 1960 and has been a strong base of science and teaching ever since. It has always actively promoted knowledge, science, critical thinking, and creating educated and open-minded young experts. The Faculty is comprised of five departments which conduct teaching and research in Biology, Ecology, Chemistry, Biochemistry and Environmental Protection, Physics, Meteorology, Astronomy, Mathematics, Informatics, Geosciences, Tourism and Hotel Management. The departments function as separate units but still they represent a unique interdisciplinary entity which facilitates optimal use of modern teaching and scientific equipment and excellent scientific results thanks to the high-quality staff.

The Faculty conducts teaching and scientific activities in accordance with the adopted policy of quality assurance and excellence. The fundamental goal of this Faculty is to reach European and world standards in science and education. The Faculty produced a detailed strategy of development of educational process, which includes ongoing monitoring and quality assurance of study programmes, studying efficiency, self-assessment and teacher assessment, Faculty’s management, as well as of the process of matching the teaching programmes with the needs of the labour market. The modernisation of studies includes the application of the latest work methodology and putting a special emphasis on new digital technologies, both in the teaching process (e-learning) and in all forms of communication between students and lecturers, students’ service and the Faculty management. In accordance with the European strategies in higher education, which demand that the quality achieved at the national level must be characterized by an international dimension, and this includes exchange of knowledge, interactive networking, international scientific projects, mobility at all levels, we devote a special attention to international cooperation and academic mobility of students and staff. Apart from providing support to our students’ participation in mobility programmes, the Faculty is committed to internationalisation by participating in joint study programmes with universities from EU and worldwide, as well as by raising attractiveness of our study programmes to students from abroad.

UNSPMF works towards gaining new knowledge through research and education, career development of its staff, and attracting European and other external funding to achieve full integration into the European Research and Higher Education Area. The Faculty has considerable experience in implementing educational and research projects. UNSPMF is strategically oriented to EU and other external funding (such as H2020; currently participating in 2), trying to fully employ its excellence, experience, equipment and competent human resources achieved through participation in various programs: FP7, FP6, FP5, European Agency for Reconstruction and Development, COST actions, FP7 – SEERANET Plus Joint Call, South East Europe Program, Hungary-Serbia IPA Cross-border Co-operation Program, TEMPUS program, Erasmus Mundus, a significant number of activities within the bi- and multilateral cooperation (Thailand, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, France, Switzerland-4 projects under SCOPES 2013-2016 program). The research strategy is directed towards internationalization, improving human resources and capacity building. Our mission is to promote modernization of higher education, enhance the quality and relevance of higher education in the region, and attract as many undergraduate, PhD students, and postdoctoral researchers as possible.

UNSPMF is committed to principles of The European Charter for Researchers and Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers, as the University of Novi Sad is a signatory. Additionally, the Faculty is a member of the EURAXESS project initiative and provides supporting services to researchers wishing to pursue research careers in Europe.

University of Novi Sad

The University of Novi Sad was founded on 28 June 1960. Today it comprises 14 faculties located in the four major towns of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina: Novi Sad, Subotica, Zrenjanin, and Sombor.

The University of Novi Sad is a regional leader in education and research as one of the most attractive and internationally visible among other state universities in Serbia. The main University Campus provides the University with a unique and beautiful setting – close to the city centre and even closer to the Danube River.
